EVIDENCE OF ABOMINATION

REMASTERED: AN OBJECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

In my previous post ,I had argued that the re mastered reissues of original recordings of classic  Extreme Metal has warped the original sound. You might have perceived the differences in the Death remasters/vs/original posted above.

This time I found an interesting blog called The Helm of Anti-Lemon that compares both versions ( original and re-mastered) of several classic albums, like CARCASS,FORBIDDEN,MALEVOLENT CREATION… under the same volume.

This helps to have an objective view on the issue of remastering and could feel the occurring of the sound distortion in some instruments, I am posting here a sample from the The  Helm of Anti-Lemon blog, which is also on my blogroll here if you wish to see more of it.

FORBIDDEN: FORBIDDEN EVIL RELEASES

SO WHICH VERSION WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE?

Remastered Reissues

RE-MASTERED WORTHLESSLY

The remastering of the original sound in the reissues of  Extreme Metal Music genres(Thrash / Death / Grindcore / Black Metal ) seems to have done more damage than enhancing it, resulting in the loss of the primal rawness that characterizes the genre.
In my opinion the production values of the original recordings are valid and should be kept as it is.

RE-MASTERED IN PIECES (R.I.P)

The reissues tend to have been treated to a cleaner and louder sound in line with the contemporary thinking that the louder it is the better it is.
Although this process could work for commercial music as it relays on public broadcasting (Radio, T.V,…) to seduce mass consumption markets, it actually distorts the original sound recording of the Extreme Music Genre, hence, destroying to some extent the unique atmosphere inherent to it.
